David Vamplew (Who?) Wins The EPT
Got to start reading those poker books at a young age, right?
That’s how David Vamplew has to feel. Vamplew became champion of the largest poker tournament in British history this past week at the remarkably young age of 23 years. The field consisted of 848 players, and it was the first major win in the young career of Vamplew. Winning the tournament payed Vamplew 900,000 British pounds, which translates to roughly $1,431,180.
His second biggest would have to be his finish in the World Series of Poker this past July which netted him $2,500. Vamplew finished 106th in that tournament.
“I wasn’t looking to play a lot of big pots against,” Vamplew was quoted on the ESPN Poker blog after the tournament. “I just think that there wasn’t any need to get into three-betting or four-betting wars … I enjoyed playing heads-up.”
The next question I would have asked the kid… who defeated John Juanda on the final table, a guy who has made nearly tow million dollars this year playing poker…. Is what poker books have you been reading? Who is giving you advice? What strategies do you use?
You can’t win a tournament with this many big names in it solely with luck. And in my opinion, no 23-year-old poker player has accumulated the amount of experience required to pull it off either. So I’m left with the impression that, if he’s winning, than the advice he’s getting must be pretty, pretty good.

YouTube Clips Versus Poker DVDs
Last week, we took a break from discussing game room décor to feature a YouTube clip of the movie Rounders, where Matt Damon explains the game of no-limit Texas Holdem. It’s not exactly a box-set of tutorial poker DVDs, but hey, it’s something.
We then showed a few more classic poker film clips, one from the Guy Ritchie film Lock, Stock & Two Smoking Barrels, and the other from The Sting.
And while all those scenes are fun and all, we’d still recommend that any poker fanatic who is serious about learning the ins-and-outs of the game pick up one of the many poker DVDs available on PokerShop.com.
Whether its Phil Hellmuth’s Million Dollar Secrets to Bluffing and Tells or the Poker for Dummies DVD set, these instructional videos are key to upping your game and raking in big.
Discover things as fundamental as being able to bluff to your advantage, or the deep intricacies you’re only suppose to master with years of experience. The best advantage is always knowledge, so give yourself the extra leg up on your competition with one or all of the many poker DVDs available online.
Or just watch a bunch of video clips of Paul Newman and Matt Damon. Maybe that’ll work too.

Top 4 Ways to Have a Better Poker Face
For a good poker face, you don’t have to listen to Lady Gaga – just follow these tips.
1. Relax: When playing with a custom poker chip set, you don’t have to worry about winning; just let the cards fall. Enjoy and be natural, and you will get the hands you need.
2. Be Easy: Don’t speak, unless you know what you’re saying. Don’t display any facial expressions. Use your eyes to bluff. A sparkle that says “I know that I have a hand that’s better than yours” is more powerful than anything you can say.
3. Hide: Try pretending not to know what you hold in your own hands, but it doesn’t matter because it’s a winner. Don’t bite your nails, tap your fingers on the poker table supplies, or do anything else that could signify that you’re nervous. If your opponent is looking at you in the eye, stare him back until he looks away. Poker, a game largely about intimidation, means convincing people that they don’t want to mess with you.
4. Winning and Losing: When you win, a slight smile is acceptable. Gather up your custom poker chip set modestly and congratulate everyone on a good game. It’s important to have good sportsmanship – win or lose.

Buy a Custom Poker Chip Set Today for Major Experience
Why are so many young folks taking the cake in so many poker tournaments? Well, probably because of the immense popularity of the sport over the past ten years, for one. And also because of the internet. When even the Gen Xers were growing up, the only way they could play with a custom poker chip set was on Saturday night when all of their friends gathered with their poker table supplies to drink beer and hang out. Today, young folks get all the practice they need to become masters, and by playing with a wider range of people, from all over the world, they become that much better, that much faster.
For example, 22 year-old Jake Cody won the WPT London Poker Classic. Held at the Palm Beach Casino at the Mayfair Hotel, Cody won the Main Event Buy In. 171 players paid 5,300 pounds to play, for a total of more than 800,000 pounds in the prize pool. By the end of the tournament, Cody had won more than 273,000 pounds!
While poker books and poker DVDs help you to understand the game, there’s no substitute for playing. If you want to win tourneys, it’s time to buy a custom poker chip set today!
